The history of the Rabat fortress dates back to the 9th century. This is a mini-city built in the Middle Ages, which consists of buildings from different eras. "Rabat" was the main defensive structure of the region, and its walls remember many battles. For many centuries, it was the residence of the owners of the territory of Akhaltsikhe.
Khertvisi Fortress - X th-XI th centuries, one of the most ancient and best preserved fortresses of the Georgian Middle Ages.
The cave city of Vardzia is an ensemble of monastery caves dug in the rock. In the 13th century, when the country suffered from the Tatar-Mongol yoke, the monks from Vardzia actively fought to preserve the country's religious integrity. The city was built during the reign of Queen Tamar. It was during this period that the territorial government of Georgia reached its maximum.
